Greek Theater Los Angeles Information and History
In 1975, the organization of the Greek passed over to the James M. Nederlander Companies whose other open-air theatres across the nation provided the wealth of skill needed for again modernizing the Greek. The Nederlanders repaired, renovated and invigorated the theatre with their philosophy of providing "something for everyone."
By mobilizing their nation-wide network of talent buyers and present a broad base of attractions from modern to classical artists the Nederlanders have been able to complete Griffith J. Griffith's original dream of offering Los Angeles the best amusement in the world. In 1983, the Nederlanders took the Greek Theatre one more step into the future by increasing the seating capacity to 6,187. A 1995 earthquake retrofit brought the capacity to its present 6,162.
The Greek Theatre, under the direction of the Nederlanders, has made a great brunt on Angelenos and has become a ongoing source of excellent income for the City of Los Angeles. In addition to hosting famous musical performances too frequent to mention, the Greek Theatre has served as the site of dozens of school graduations and as a setting for many TV shows and action pictures.
